Halloween Disco 24.10.13

We had a fantastically spooky time at the Halloween disco, and raised a fabulous £195!

 

Harvest Festival 24.10.13

Thank you for the very generous donations made at our Harvest Festival in St Hilda's Church. This has now all been taken to the Whitby Food Bank ready for its launch very soon.

 

 

 

 

 

Samba ! 18.10.13

Thank you to everyone who came and watched our Samba band play with Brazilian samba musician Claudio Kron at the Whalebones!! What a fantastic start to Musicport!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Space Afternoon! 08.10.13

Thank you to all parents who were able to attend our Space Afternoon on Tuesday. Children across the whole school took part in a wide range of space-themed activities including designing planets, investigating genuine space artefacts, creating craters, building and flying rockets and much more!

 

Welcome Back!!

It is fantastic to see everyone looking so relaxed and rested. We have an exciting term of space exploration ahead of us!

Summer Holidays

We close for the summer on Friday 19th July. The children return to school on Tuesday September 3rd. Have a lovely holiday and enjoy the sunshine!

 

Hit The Surf!!! 03.07.13

Staff and children had a fantastic day surfing yesterday with the lifeguards from the RNLI. We learned all about water safety, how to rescue people in trouble and of course we had a go at surfing!! It was fabulous.

 

Islamic Art Afternoon 01.07.13

We were very lucky to welcome back the members of the Islamic Diversity Centre who came to school on Monday to join in with our Arts afternoon. Children and parents took part in a variety of art activities includding calligraphy and Islamic patterns. We were also joined by a fantastic henna artist. Thank you to everyone who attended.

 

 

Our Visit to the Abu Bakr Mosque 03.06.13

This term we are learning about being a Muslim. As part of this topic the whole school visited the Abu Bakr Mosque in Middlesbrough where we worked with the Islamic Diversity Centre. It was an excellent day, thoroughly enjoyed by both children and parents.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Be The Best You Can Be! 18.03.13

As part of our topic about being the best we can be, we have been visited by many people who do the jobs that our children aspire to. Recently we have been visited by a gamekeeper, a police dog handler, and the editor of the Whitby Gazette.

 

Fairtrade Fortnight 04.03.13

We are currenly learning about Fairtade across school, and we held a Fairtrade afternoon where parents were invited in to take part in a whole host of Fairtrade activities. We had a very fun time!

 

Be The Best You Can Be !

This term we are looking at inspirational people who have achieved their dreams. We were joined by Rachael Mackenzie who is a World Champion Thai Boxer who worked incredibly hard to achieve her goals. We were also joined by Alec Duffield, a sports agent for the Brownlee brothers, who is well on the way to acheiving his dreams!

This term we are 'Being the Best We Can Be' in school, and working hard on planning and realising our dreams. We will be meeting inspirational people who have achieved their dreams. Please talk to your child about how bright their future is going to be!

Christmas Holidays

We are closing for Christmas today (21.12.12) and will reopen for children on Tuesday 8th January 2013.

The Boiler is Fixed! 10.12.12

School is open today as normal!

School Closed Today - 07.12.12

Unfortunately our boilers are not working today so we have no heating, therefore school is closed today. The engineers are fixing it today so I am sure we will be open as usual Monday.

 

Gurdwara Visits

Over the past 2 weeks our whole school had the opportunity to visit the Sikh Gurdwara in Middlesbrough. We have been learning about Sikhism as our world religion this term, and what better way to bring our learning to life than to visit a Gurdwara and learn from the source. We had 2 fantastic days, and it really helped with our understanding. Thank you to the people from the temple who allowed us to visit and shared their experiences with us.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Flamingo Land Fun!

As part of our topic on endangered species, the whole school visited the zoo at Flamingo Land to learn more about how we can help with conservation. It was a splendid day, we learned a lot! We even got to hold a snake!

 

Samba!!

On Saturday 6th October our Year 5 class were invited to open the Musicport Festival in town at the Spa Pavilion in town. They rehearsed and played with Brazilian musician Claudio Kron who was amazing! We had a fantastic time, look out for news of a samba band starting at school soon!.

 

Diner Opening

On Friday 5th October we had the official opening of our new American Diner. All the staff and children dressed in 50's clothing, and we had lots of VIP guests. Mrs Breckon cooked a special American dinner. It was fabulous!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

100 Year Anniversary of the Captain Cook Statue!

Last week saw the 100th anniversary of the Captain Cook Statue on the West Cliff in Whitby. Our Turtle Class went along to help celebrate the occasion by singing a sea shanty. I hope that those of you that attended the ceremony had a lovely time, and heard the children singing on every news bulletin on Yorkshire Coast Radio that day!

 

 

Roald Dahl Day

On Friday 28th September we celebrated Roald Dahl's birthday by coming into school dressed as Roald Dahl characters, we all took part in book related activities all day and raised money for the Roald Dahl charity. Look out for the pictures in the corridor and the Gazette.

 

New Diner!

If you have not seen our new diner, pop in and see us! A huge thank you to Trevor Parker, Emma Whisker and Ian Whisker who gave up lots of their time to help me make it look so fantastic!
