Tame a tiger (face a situation that worries them)

Improve their local environment and community

One of our classes is a nursery class that takes children from 2 years old. The school mainly takes children from the west side and the centre of Whitby - but is accessible from all parts of the town.
We pride ourselves on providing a warm and welcoming environment for children and adults alike, and we strive to provide the very best standard of education possible for our children.
The school has a before and after school club (The Ocean Fun Club), offering wraparound care for children from 7.45 until 5.15. This is open to all children including our nursery children. Prices are £2.50 for breakfast and £2.50 per hour after school. Please book a place using the My Child at School app.

We are a beach school and are very committed to learning outside of the classroom. Exploring, motivating, engaging, creating and thinking.

We aim to give every child the best possible start to their education. We work with children from the age of 2 until they transfer to Primary School.

Our children are currently organised into 7 classes & a new Guppies Nursery Class. Our class numbers range from 22 to 32. We pride ourselves on personalised learning.

At West Cliff our aspirational curriculum is designed to recognise and build on children’s prior learning and develop inquisitive, curious, resilient and independent learners who are willing to ‘tame their tigers’.

Well it’s been emotional… it’s hard to believe that a whole academic year has passed already. Thinking of all their achievements, large and small ( but actually the small ones were still huge) is quite astonishing and makes us feel really proud🥰 We hope you’re proud of yourselves too🧡 What a beautiful bunch, all different and all capable of doing the best thing ever-making us laugh everyday; it doesn’t get much better than that🙌- well actually, maybe an England win🤷♀️(I’m convinced we lost because we didn’t sing wonderwall that day, blame us not Tuchel!!)😞 We’d also like to say a massive, huge thank you for your kind and generous gifts and words. Your thought and appreciation was and is beyond lovely- thank you so much 🧡🩷🧡 Gushy sentiment incomming…😬🤷♀️🙈 A big thank you to all of the grown ups who work at West Cliff, each and everyone. I think this term has shown just how committed they are to the children, school and each other 🩷 This is something Mr Long noted in todays leavers assembly ( which was beautiful, Super Seals🧡) We weren’t just saying farewell to the Seals today, we also said a sad farewell to Miss Tout. Of course she has already been snapped up by another school because she is blooming marvellous; a loss for us but a massive gain for that school🌟 And so it’s a funny time of year, sad that it’s ended but happy and hopeful for all that’s to come. We wish you a truly wonderful summer, it’s a long one so pace yourselves! As parents we put so much pressure on ourselves, just let it be known that the best fun the “Guffins” have had this year has been with a hosepipe and a cardboard box! Often it’s the simplest things that bring the most joy (my husband often says that’s why he married me🤷♀️) Honestly, thank you so much🥰 Hopefully we’lll see you out and about and if not, we’ll see you in September (Wednesday 9th). Big love🧡🩷🩷🧡🩷

🦭Team Seal 2025-26 - that’s a wrap!🦭 What a wonderful day we have had celebrating our wonderful bunch of Seals! We’ve enjoyed Botham’s cakes, t-shirt signing and finished with a superb leavers’ assembly. We wish all of our Year 6s the best of luck for their next adventure and can’t wait to hear how they get on. I am overwhelmed by all of the kind words, messages and gifts (I admit to having shed a tear or two) - thank you all so very much. Have a wonderful summer! ☀️

Our aspirational curriculum is designed to recognise and build on children’s prior learning and develop inquisitive, curious, resilient and independent learners who are willing to ‘tame their tigers’. Reading and digital literacy are at the heart of our daily learning, opening up new learning opportunities.

Our ever-developing bespoke curriculum will provide our pupils with the opportunity to develop a rich and deep subject knowledge and understand the purpose and value of their learning. Whilst celebrating Whitby’s heritage and locality, we promote opportunities to explore the wider world.

Our school pledges and Beach School status at the core of our curriculum, value all subjects; help our pupils to be ambitious and creative; and prepare them for their future lives.
