Improve their local environment and community

One of our classes is a nursery class that takes children from 2 years old. The school mainly takes children from the west side and the centre of Whitby - but is accessible from all parts of the town.
We pride ourselves on providing a warm and welcoming environment for children and adults alike, and we strive to provide the very best standard of education possible for our children.
The school has a before and after school club (The Ocean Fun Club), offering wraparound care for children from 7.45 until 5.15. This is open to all children including our nursery children. Prices are £2.50 for breakfast and £2.50 per hour after school. Please book a place using the My Child at School app.

We are a beach school and are very committed to learning outside of the classroom. Exploring, motivating, engaging, creating and thinking.

We aim to give every child the best possible start to their education. We work with children from the age of 2 until they transfer to Primary School.

Our children are currently organised into 7 classes & a new Guppies Nursery Class. Our class numbers range from 22 to 32. We pride ourselves on personalised learning.

At West Cliff our aspirational curriculum is designed to recognise and build on children’s prior learning and develop inquisitive, curious, resilient and independent learners who are willing to ‘tame their tigers’.

YEAR 5 Lealholm Visit 🚂🍃🌳🌞🍦 Yesterday, as part of our Geography unit on Rivers, Dolphin Class travelled by train to Lealholm. We spent the day exploring a small part of the River Esk alongside some of the children from Lealholm School. Throughout the day, we hunted for mini beasts in the water and used identification keys to work out what they were. We also worked in groups to build and race a raft, before ending the day with a delicious ice cream. The sun shone and we had a lovely time ☺️

🏄♂️🌊 Year 6 Beach Day 🌊🏄♀️ The waves may have been flat calm yesterday afternoon but that didn't stop Year 6 from having a fantastic time in the water! ☀️ The children took on the role of rookie lifeguards, practising rescue skills and safely "saving" each other before hopping onto the surfboards for some paddling and balance challenges. With plenty of splashing, laughter and teamwork, we proved that you don't need big waves to have a brilliant afternoon at the beach. From rescue games to surfboard antics, everyone threw themselves into the activities and made the most of the beautiful conditions. A great afternoon of building confidence, learning new skills and making memories with friends! 🌊😊

Our aspirational curriculum is designed to recognise and build on children’s prior learning and develop inquisitive, curious, resilient and independent learners who are willing to ‘tame their tigers’. Reading and digital literacy are at the heart of our daily learning, opening up new learning opportunities.

Our ever-developing bespoke curriculum will provide our pupils with the opportunity to develop a rich and deep subject knowledge and understand the purpose and value of their learning. Whilst celebrating Whitby’s heritage and locality, we promote opportunities to explore the wider world.

Our school pledges and Beach School status at the core of our curriculum, value all subjects; help our pupils to be ambitious and creative; and prepare them for their future lives.
