Welcome to West Cliff Primary

West Cliff Primary School is a warm and friendly community school that provides education from children aged 2-11. It currently has approximately 200 children on roll, divided into 9 classes (one for each year group & Rockpool).

One of our classes is a nursery class that takes children from 2 years old.  The school mainly takes children from the west side and the centre of Whitby - but is accessible from all parts of the town.

We pride ourselves on providing a warm and welcoming environment for children and adults alike, and we strive to provide the very best standard of education possible for our children.

The school has a before and after school club (The Ocean Fun Club), offering wraparound care for children from 7.45 until 5.15.  This is open to all children including our nursery children.  Prices are £2.50 for breakfast and £2.50 per hour after school.  Please book a place using the My Child at School app.

What a starfish-tically brilliant day we’ve had in Starfish Class! 🌟 This morning, we swapped the classroom for the beach and had so much fun playing football on the sand, batting and bowling in cricket, and creating an impressive collection of sandy masterpieces with our sandcastles. After all that excitement, we got busy this afternoon with some fantastic paper weaving as part of our DT project, showing off the creativity and perseverance that Starfish Class are so good at. Then came the perfect ending to a perfect day – a delicious ice cream treat to cool us down! 🍦😋 Our Starfish have worked their socks off this year, always giving their best and making us proud, so this special treat was a well-deserved way to celebrate all their hard work. What a wonderful day full of smiles, sunshine and special memories! ☀️🏖️⭐

Yesterday, Seal Class had the fantastic opportunity to visit the fisheries patrol boat with the North Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority - and honestly, it might have been the coolest place in Whitby to be on such a hot day! With a refreshing sea breeze on deck and the luxury of air conditioning inside, we were living our best lives while learning all about the important work NEIFCA does to protect our local coastline and marine life. The children completed a quiz, admired the impressive boat and even said hello to a rather handsome lobster! We finished with a ‘very willing’ volunteer suiting up in all the specialist gear and going head-to-head with one of the experts. Let's just say there were a few laughs! A huge thank you to North Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority, Dean for organising the visit, Mrs Knight for giving up her day off to accompany us and the wonderful crew for leading our groups and sharing their expertise. We had an amazing time and are already hoping to return with more groups next year.
