Tame a tiger (face a situation that worries them)

Improve their local environment and community

One of our classes is a nursery class that takes children from 2 years old. The school mainly takes children from the west side and the centre of Whitby - but is accessible from all parts of the town.
We pride ourselves on providing a warm and welcoming environment for children and adults alike, and we strive to provide the very best standard of education possible for our children.
The school has a before and after school club (The Ocean Fun Club), offering wraparound care for children from 7.45 until 5.15. This is open to all children including our nursery children. Prices are £2.50 for breakfast and £2.50 per hour after school. Please book a place using the My Child at School app.

We are a beach school and are very committed to learning outside of the classroom. Exploring, motivating, engaging, creating and thinking.

We aim to give every child the best possible start to their education. We work with children from the age of 2 until they transfer to Primary School.

Our children are currently organised into 7 classes & a new Guppies Nursery Class. Our class numbers range from 22 to 32. We pride ourselves on personalised learning.

At West Cliff our aspirational curriculum is designed to recognise and build on children’s prior learning and develop inquisitive, curious, resilient and independent learners who are willing to ‘tame their tigers’.

🌟Over the past two days, we have had the pleasure of getting to know our new classes and teachers, while focusing on celebrating our individuality and coming together as a community. The experience culminated in our performances at church today and what a celebration it was! From uplifting singing and energetic dancing to powerful poetry performances that truly blew us away, our children showcased an incredible range of talents. We were also treated to a fantastic solo guitar performance! Our children are simply fabulous and we could not be prouder of them. A huge thank you to all the families and friends who joined us and supported the occasion. We would also like to say a MASSIVE thank you to Chris and Mya from Colebrooke Productions—both former West Cliffers—who worked with us to help prepare such wonderful performances! 🌟

📚🌞 Summer Reading Challenge 2026 Launch! 🌞📚 This morning, we were delighted to welcome representatives from Whitby Library to West Cliff School to launch the Summer Reading Challenge 2026. The assembly was full of excitement as children learned all about this year's challenge and discovered the fantastic opportunities that await them at their local library over the summer holidays. Reading is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children, opening doors to new worlds, adventures and opportunities, and we hope as many children as possible will take part. A huge thank you to the team from Whitby Library for delivering such an engaging assembly and inspiring our children to keep reading throughout the summer break. We can't wait to hear about all the books, characters and adventures our pupils discover during the challenge. Happy reading, West Cliff! 📖✨ #WestCliffSchool #SummerReadingChallenge2026 #WhitbyLibrary #LoveOfReading #ReadingForPleasure #ReadyToRead 📚🌟

Our aspirational curriculum is designed to recognise and build on children’s prior learning and develop inquisitive, curious, resilient and independent learners who are willing to ‘tame their tigers’. Reading and digital literacy are at the heart of our daily learning, opening up new learning opportunities.

Our ever-developing bespoke curriculum will provide our pupils with the opportunity to develop a rich and deep subject knowledge and understand the purpose and value of their learning. Whilst celebrating Whitby’s heritage and locality, we promote opportunities to explore the wider world.

Our school pledges and Beach School status at the core of our curriculum, value all subjects; help our pupils to be ambitious and creative; and prepare them for their future lives.
