Our School
West Cliff Primary School is a warm and friendly community school that provides education from children aged 2-11.
It currently has approximately 200 children on roll, divided into 9 classes (one for each year group & our Rockpool).
One of our classes is a nursery class that takes children from 2 years old. The school mainly takes children from the west side and the centre of Whitby - but is accessible from all parts of the town.
We pride ourselves on providing a warm and welcoming environment for children and adults alike, and we strive to provide the very best standard of education possible for our children.
The school has a before and after school club (The Ocean Fun Club), offering wraparound care for children from 7.45 until 5.15. This is open to all children including our nursery children. Prices are £2.50 for breakfast and £2.50 per hour after school. Please book via the My Child at School app.
We hope that you can find everything that you are looking for, please contact the school directly if there is any other information that you would like.
If you would like to register your child with a place for our school, please contact us. Children are admitted into Puffin Class (Reception) the September after their 4th birthday. Children can attend nursery as soon as they are 2, some children are funded from 2 but most are funded from the term after their 3rd birthday.
What is it like to attend West Cliff?
West Cliff is a school where staff deeply care about the well being of the pupils (and their parents) that come here. Inclusion sits at the very heart of the school. School leaders and governors have a passionate commitment to helping pupils be the best that they can be.
Expectations for all pupils are high. This includes children with SEND. If any child is falling behind or has recently joined the school then there is a plan to address quickly. Pupils arrive at school eager to learn. The school enquiry curriculum is ambitious and extends the children's learning beyond their own life experiences. Enquiries are planned carefully to ensure progression of skills and knowledge across school.
Pupils behave exceptionally well. They are kind and courteous, and have patience with children that may find school life difficult. Children feel happy, safe and wanted. Bullying is not tolerated.
Pupils get many chances to see and experience the world beyond the school gates - with a variety of trips and a progressive set of beach school activities. Children are taught to respect their heritage, and also to understand and respect the wider world.
